Academic requirements

Undergraduate
  • Students must have completed twelve years of schooling to apply for undergraduate stream of studies.
  • Medium of instruction at schooling level should have been in English. Few universities still prefer IELTS/TOEFL scores before admissions.
  • For applying to various specialized degrees, few pre-requisite subjects should have been part of the curriculum in standard twelve. For e.g. to apply for an engineering degree, mathematics/calculus should have been part of the curriculum.
  • All international students should be covered by the overseas students health cover before going to Australia.
  • All applications should be accompanied with certified copies of twelfth marks list, TOEFL/IELTS scores and a letter of purpose, stating details of why the student chose the course etc.
Postgraduate
  • A Bachelors degree from a recognized Indian university with good scores is a requisite to pursue postgraduate course in Australia. For PhD, a master’s degree from a recognized university in India is required.
  • Application forms should be accompanied along with certified copies of mark list of standard tenth, twelve, and degree course along with provisional certificate. Universities require IELTS/TOEFL scores.
  • Work experience certificate if applicable has to be produced. A letter of recommendation from a teacher at degree is also very important.
  • A statement of purpose stating details of why the particular course is chosen should be provided.

To be accepted to study on a student visa in Australia, you will need to demonstrate a sufficient level of English language proficiency, and meet minimum academic requirements.

English language skills

English language skills are a requirement for receiving an Australian student visa. IELTS is the only test accepted by the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) for visa purposes.

Institutions set their own English language requirements for course entry, and the IELTS score needed for your course may be different to the score needed to secure your visa.

IELTS test to have been conducted not more than 24 months before the day on which the application was made.

Academic requirements

To gain entry into an Australian undergraduate course you will need to have an Australia Senior Secondary Certificate of Education (Year 12), or the overseas equivalent. Some undergraduate courses may also have specific pre-requisite subjects.

For entry to taught postgraduate courses (master’s degrees, postgraduate diplomas and postgraduate certificates), you will need an undergraduate degree or equivalent from your country in a relevant area. For example, to study chemistry at master”s level, you would need to have a degree in chemistry.

To accept your offer from an education provider, you must pay the tuition fee. Most Australian institutions require you to pay the first semester fee only. You can choose to pay this fee through either Telegraphic Transfer (TT) or Direct Debit (DD).

Once the institutions have received and processed your tuition fee payment, they will issue you with an Electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (ECoE). Once you have received this, we can start the visa application process as follows

  • Completed Form 157 A
  • Application Fee in the form of a Draft payable to “Australian High Commission, New Delhi”
  • Letter of Offer / provisional acceptance issued by the Australian Educational Institution (original and copy) for a full time course. The institution should be registered with the Australian Government to offer courses to overseas student.
  • Educational testimonials (mark sheets and certificates). All copies should be notarized
  • Evidence of payment (COE) of First semester Tuition fees and overseas student health insurance cover (OSHC).
  • A letter from sponsor (where appropriate) i.e., Affidavit of Support (on Stamp paper) -original and Notarized copies- which should include :
  • His / her relationship with you
  • Letter from the sponsor’s employer (If employed) / Income Proof
  • Income Tax Return (of last 3 years)
  • Details of his / her other dependents
  • Personal bank statement of the sponsor
  • Any other documents pertaining to financial standing
  • A statement from a Chartered Accountant (with his registration /membership number) of immovable and moveable assets owned by you / your parents/sponsor.
